Bonnie + Alec : Casa Feliz Wedding in Winter Park, Florida

March 28, 2016 by Jensey 1 Comment

Bonnie and Nate were good friends in college, and like his other college friends, she was always incredibly supportive of his photography. We were so excited when she inquired for her wedding, and not just because Bonnie is one of those women incapable of taking a bad photo. ;)

Bonnie and Alec grew up on different continents, but they have everything in common. My favorite thing about their love story is that they met in Bonnie’s lab and fell in love while dissecting rats together once a week. <3

These guys were married in an extra special Orlando venue for us- Casa Feliz! You may remember from a past post that this is the venue where Nate and I were planning our wedding reception before eloping. Casa Feliz is such a charming Winter Park wedding venue, I love the rich brick and all the color the venue naturally lends itself to. Bonnie and Alec’s wedding took place on the front porch. :) The day after their wedding, they flew to London to celebrate with Alec’s family and friends.

Before I share our photos from the day, I thought I’d do something a little different and share their film from their videographer, Tyler of Beyond Videography. I’ve said it before, but the photo/video relationship can be a dicey one, especially when our styles don’t match. It’s asking two different “artists” with two completely different visions share a canvas, except that canvas is your wedding day and there are a lot of moving pieces involved. We love when our couples go with a videographer on our short list, because we know we won’t have to fight it out or spend half of our already shortened photo time with you waiting for the video team to ask you to put your veil on for the third time so they can capture it from another angle. It’s rare we ask a couple to re-do something and believe we’re there to document your wedding day, not “stage” it. Tyler is one of the easiest vendors to work with, and he brings such truly positive energy to your wedding day. I think my favorite thing about his work though is how well his end product goes with ours. Instead of two documentations with two completely different feels and editing styles, they just kinda fit. :)

Without further ado, Bonnie and Alec’s wedding film by Tyler of Beyond Videography! (Root couples- go book him!!)

Bonnie and Alec’s wedding included a special reading of my new favorite poem, “The Day the Saucers Came” by Neil Gaiman. I encourage you to read the poem in its entirety here, but my favorite excerpt, the last stanza, is maybe the sweetest, most accurate description of what it felt like dating my husband. :)

That day, the saucer day, the zombie day
The Ragnarok and fairies day,
the day the great winds came
And snows and the cities turned to crystal, the day
All plants died, plastics dissolved, the day the
Computers turned, the screens telling
us we would obey, the day
Angels, drunk and muddled, stumbled from the bars,
And all the bells of London were sounded, the day
Animals spoke to us in Assyrian, the Yeti day,
The fluttering capes and arrival of
the Time Machine day,
You didn’t notice any of this because
you were sitting in your room, not doing anything
not even reading, not really, just
looking at your telephone,
wondering if I was going to call.

Violet + Eli : Orlando Family Portrait Sesssion

March 24, 2016 by Jensey Leave a Comment

*You can see our last two sessions with this sweet family here and here!*

Violet was only one when we first photographed her, and now she’s this amazing, silly, charming big sister.

This was our second time meeting Eli, and the biggest thing these siblings have in common is that they become infinitely cuter with every session!

I can’t believe it’s been ~8 years since Cynthia and Shane’s wedding day. Talk about “Root Lifers!”

My favorite part of the session was realizing that Eli didn’t remember us from our last session; I can’t blame him, it was a while ago and he was younger! But I went to put them in place, and he looked at me completely freaked out. “How do you know our names?!” I reminded him that we played and took photos with them a couple years ago and he goes, “Oh, good. I was worried for a second!” *I* think he was confused because we didn’t re-introduce Nate as “Miss Bobbi!”

Maaaaaaybe it’s just us, but we think Eli almost looks a little like a young Joseph Gorden-Levitt!

One guess as to who taught them this! (Answer at the bottom of this post!)

May I just lament for one second that Violet was this tiny the first time we met her?!?!?

Smith Family : Celebration Florida Family Portrait Session

March 23, 2016 by Jensey Leave a Comment

The spring before my family moved to Celebration, Florida from Tennessee, I did an internship with the Walt Disney World College Program to help me decide whether I wanted to stay at school in Tennessee or move with the family to Florida. I mean let’s be honest, I kneeeeew I wanted to move to Orlando, but it was a good excuse to come work for Disney a little sooner. ;)

Before long I was unpacking my Celebration bedroom realizing this was now home! And sure enough, these were three of the faces I met first as a Celebration resident. :) This family lived right behind us and I was as old as Cole, the oldest brother, and Charlotte was going to be a freshman at Celebration High with my little sister. There’s really nothing that makes a new house feel like a home more than your little sister running around with her new best friend! And as it turned out, Charlotte’s family was also from Tennessee, and in even more of a “small world” moment, Charlotte’s brother even went to high school with my suite mates at UT Knoxville!

Anyway, Charlotte emailed us last year saying that her parents will soon be moving out of Celebration following her dad’s retirement but they wanted to surprise her mom with a family session for her birthday. So. Stinkin’. Sweet. Charlotte’s brothers are now married and there’s a new star of the family, little miss Morgan! It was so fun meeting the newest family members. :)

Pam, Hershel, Kip, Missy, Morgan, Cole, Johanna, and CHARLOTTE! We love y’all and wish you the best, neighbors! <3
